The hip Gili Air

Writer's picture: JWJW

To also get an impression of Gili Air, I visited this island in the course of a day trip from Gili Meno. The islands are so close together, so that one has already arrived at the destination within a few minutes. My experience is only based on a day trip, so this post is very short and crisp. Nevertheless, I hope to give you a very good picture of Gili Air.

Very roughly I would describe the island as a mixture between Gili Trawangan and Gili Meno. There are both very lonely beautiful beaches, but also enough hustle and bustle and a good infrastructure on the island - depending on where you are on the island.

Getting around on the island is partly possible by bike, but there are also many paths in which you sink into the sand and therefore only progresses well on foot.

From my impression, this island has the hippest pubs and also the most beautiful beach resorts. If you want to try very cool unusual pubs and generally do not want to do without a certain travel standard, you are in very good hands on Gili Air. Still in addition there were felt here also the best souvenir stores 😊

Restaurant recommendations

After I arrived at the port, I walked directly along the main street, which leads exactly in the middle of the island. There is directly this restaurant caught my eye, because the interior design with pastel colors and infinitely many Kaffeehäferl is very striking. The cappuccino with oat milk is highly recommended 😊

Kopi Susu

This restaurant scores with its ambience right from the start. You sit in a garden surrounded by trees and flowers on nice wooden tables - and right next to one of the main roads of the island. The restaurant is an incredibly beautiful oasis of peace.

I only enjoyed a coffee here but the food that the waiters brought to other tables looked very good and the online reviews speak for themselves.

Poke Fresh & Healthy Food

This restaurant is very detailed and lovingly decorated and invites you to chat with other travelers. You are placed there at a large round table and then sit together with other travelers at the table while you enjoy the food.

In addition to the a la carte meal, there is also the option of putting together a bowl completely individually using a building block system. I tried that out right away. The staff is very accommodating - since I couldn't decide between the sauces, they immediately brought me a sample to help me decide.

The bowl tasted good to me and was very filling. As a small highlight at the end you still got a brownie sample served free of charge. 😊
