The Gili Islands are an incredibly beautiful and diverse destination, but the 3 islands could not be more different. If you are planning to visit the Gili Islands and are wondering which of the islands is the best choice for your needs, I would like to give you a brief overview from my travel experiences.
Gili Trawangan is a good choice for you if you want to
like to go to clubs or bars with live music in the evening
would like to experience a run on an island with a far more solid surface
would like to experience cinema on the beach
are not afraid that it can be loud and bustling in the evening (take earplugs!)
would like to take advantage of a varied yoga offer
to find a large selection of restaurants (both local and international cuisine)
prefer medical care (due to the good infrastructure and the large number of medical centres)
would like to experience sunrise SUP yoga
would like to get useful things for your trip (e.g. water shoes, surfing equipment etc.)

Gili Air is a good choice for you if you prefer
quiet bars/restaurants
a wide choice of restaurants (both local and international cuisine)
to walk (many paths where you sink into the sand)
to take advantage of yoga offers look for nice souvenirs (especially jewellery)

Gili Meno is a good choice for you if you
like to walk (many paths where you sink into the sand)
prefer quiet bars/restaurants
prefer Indonesian cuisine (hardly any places with international cuisine)
want to have dream beaches virtually to yourselves
want to experience a sunrise ride at a fair price
do not plan any long evening activities

What do you find on each island?
Good food
Unbelievably beautiful beaches (as you can see in the pictures 😊)
Snorkelling spots directly from the beach (you can borrow equipment everywhere)
"Natural alarm clocks" starting from mosques and roosters 😊
Many cats, but no dogs (dogs should be forbidden)
Bicycles and horse-drawn carts as the only means of transport
The possibility to participate in a beach cleanup. This always takes place on Fridays and you get a beer as a thank you 😊
If you have chosen one island and have enough time on your trip, I would recommend taking day trips to the other islands by public boat. Each of the 3 islands is special and a day trip is well worth it.
And with the choice between 3 incredibly beautiful islands, you can't really go wrong - it's just a matter of taste which of the islands best suits your individual holiday ideas.
And to which island would you like to travel? 😊
