Labuan Bajo and surroundings - an underestimated place!

We have chosen Labuan Bajo as a place to stay overnight to have a suitable place for a start of our Komodo trip. Otherwise, we have not dealt in advance at all with what you can still do in Labuan Bajo and surroundings. We had not much, but some time to get to know other sides away from the Komodo tourism and I must say, a slightly longer stay pays off in any case.

Hotel tip: I can highly recommend the accommodation "Cool Breeze Authentic Hotel". In addition to the perfect location near the harbor, this hotel is characterized by clean rooms and a cozy lounge area. The staff is attentive and eager. They constantly ask you how they can help you and also give super tips for things to do.

Restaurant recommendations

On our first evening in Labuan Bajo, we went to the pizza house. This small place has a very small selection (I think only 4 different pizzas) and the place itself is exciting because the pizzas are made in the sales room right next to the customers.

The pizzas were very good and a cool Radler made the dinner perfect! 😊

This place on the main street of Labuan Bajo was overflowing with tourists and many locals were standing on the street waiting for their take away order. We were lucky and got a seat outside.

Both pizza and pasta were delicious and it was a good change from Indonesian food.

Carpenter Café

Looking for a cappuccino with oat milk, I found this place online.

In addition to a super café there was also good breakfast like natural yogurt with granola and fresh fruit - we could start the day well strengthened. 😊

Activities

We were unfortunately not very long in Labuan Bajo and therefore I can not recommend too much personally. From other tourists or the staff of our hotel, we have learned, for example, that there are many beautiful sandy beaches to explore near Labuan Bajo, where supposedly few tourists are on the road. Try it out with pleasure 😊

Watch the sunset

On our arrival day we arrived just in time for sunset. The sky at the port turned purple, it seemed almost fake, so intense were the colors.

You can watch the sunset directly from the harbor. There are in Labuan Bajo but also some restaurants, which are somewhat elevated on a hill - from there you must also have an incredibly great view.

Explore Rangko Cave

We followed a recommendation of a hotel employee and visited Rangko Cave. This cave is located a little outside of Labuan Bajo, but is easy to reach with the help of Grab. When our cab dropped us off, we had to take a short boat ride because the entrance to the cave is on a small piece of beach that can only be reached from the sea. The beach is nice and quiet and there are only a few locals there who charge the entrance fee for the cave and a few others who swim there and enjoy the peace and quiet.

From the beach you walk along a narrow path for about 5 minutes and then you already reach the cave. Once there, you only have to go a few steps downhill, and you will stand in front of an intense blue water pool. The pool is deep enough to swim in and explore the cave from the water.

The cave is not large, but beautiful and fortunately not crowded (as we experienced).

I hope I have aroused your interest to also want to explore Labuan Bajo and surroundings! 😊
