If you continue to Amed after Ubud, then the difference between these two cities could hardly be greater. Amed is quite a small quiet place right on the east coast of Bali where everything is very relaxed.
If I had to choose which is THE typical picture to describe Amed, then I would take the multitude of fishing boats, which are beautifully lined up on the black beach along and waiting for their use.

Despite the tranquility, there are enough beautiful and varied things to experience.
Watching the fish by the kayak
At the restaurant "La Plage" you can rent SUPs and kayaks by the hour. The special thing about these is that they are transparent and so you can also watch the fish at the same time above the reefs near the beach. We rented a 2-seater kayak for an hour and paddled motivated to the reef.
Tip: You will see the most here if you start early in the morning when the water is still very calm. Besides the visibility, it's also better for your general well-being. Looking down all the time to watch fish when there are waves can make you seasick very quickly (I speak from experience) 😊.

If you do not get seasick, it is certainly a super nice experience! 😉
Watching the sun set behind the volcano
From the beach in Amed you have a beautiful view of the volcano Agung. The sun also sets in exactly this direction. It is simply an incredibly impressive picture when the sky changes color and this red ball of fire sets behind the volcano surrounded by small clouds.

I wanted to experience this spectacle every night because I couldn't get enough of this image.
Enjoying a "Radler" and watching the action on the beach
Although Amed is a very quiet place, there is a lot going on at the beach. However, the hustle and bustle is largely dominated by the locals. Many people sit by their boats and chat, some children run around and play, other children walk around with small baskets full of souvenirs and want to sell them to tourists and in the middle of the hustle and bustle there are then also incredibly many dogs that play with each other on the beach.

Watching these interactions and getting to know a bit more of the everyday life of the locals is very nice. And to enjoy a Radler (yes, that's right - they have Radler in Indonesia and that's what it's called there!) is the crowning glory. 😊
Visit the Lempuyang temple complex
I also made the day trip from Amed to the nearby Lempuyang Temple, but there is a separate post about that. 😊
My stay in Amed was pretty short, so I can't tell you more about my own activities. What else Amed is known for are definitely activities in the water like snorkeling or diving.
Hotel recommendation
I can recommend our hotel "Putra'Lebah Amed Guest House" with a clear conscience. It is located directly on the beach and also in the center of Amed, the rooms are spacious and clean and the food in the associated restaurant is incredibly good. The guesthouse owner is an efficient, very sympathetic woman. She speaks good English and helps you with any request. The hotel is completely family-run and you notice the cohesion, mutual support and also the good mood among them - also a factor that contributes to one's well-being in this place. The hotel is rather simple, but there is everything you need, it is all clean and for me the price/performance ratio was just top!
Restaurant recommendations
Café Ringa is I think the hippest café in Amed. It is located directly on the main street and already when you look in from the street, you see that this facility is super special. An incredibly beautiful garden, many palm trees and a stylishly furnished house you can already see from the street. If you then pass through the first house with tables, you cross another short piece of garden and come into a second building, which is slightly different but at least as stylishly furnished. A ceiling height as we know it from old buildings, equally high windows and incredible many plants adorn the room. The furnishings consisting of wood and other natural materials fit perfectly into the concept.

Besides the ambience, the food was extremely good - I can recommend the vegetarian wrap 😊
Especially the lovers of fish and seafood get their money's worth at this restaurant. This warung is located directly on the beach and has various options for relaxing, from normal tables to beanbags directly on the beach.

They vary the offers of the day depending on what fresh fish they have caught. Besides fish, there are a few other dishes (like spaghetti aglio e olio) on the menu. The dishes are very reasonably priced. 😊
Putra'Lebah Warung
As already briefly mentioned in the hotel recommendation, the associated restaurant is also highly recommended. You sit directly on the beach and have a large selection of mainly Indonesian dishes. The portions are nice and big and reasonably priced. I can also highly recommend the fresh fruit juices here. The hostess is happy to sit with you and chat or give you tips for various activities.
I hope I have made you want to visit Amed - you will have a good time there!
