On the way from Ella to the south, we made a stop to walk to the Ellewala waterfall. This is a bit off the main road and therefore not very frequented by tourists. To get to the waterfall, you have to do a hike of about 30 minutes. First, a path winds up through the forest - this can also be used by tuk tuks if you want to shorten the walking time.

The last 10 minutes of the way you have to walk - there you really go over hill and dale before you see the sound of the waterfall. The waterfall is beautifully embedded in the middle of the jungle and flows into a kind of natural pool, in which you can also go swimming. The water is beautifully clear, the sun shines down from the beginning of the waterfall and if you're lucky, you can also see a rainbow there - simply an incredibly beautiful spot of nature.

When we were there, only a few locals were bathing there, so it was nice and quiet and relaxed and you could really enjoy this beautiful spot to the fullest.
On the way back towards the car we were able to observe a large beautiful butterfly, which flew around between colorful flowers.

I have visited several waterfalls in Sri Lanka - this one is one of my absolute favorites.
