Colombo

Colombo is a very large, stressful and noisy capital. The traffic there is unbelievable. I think if I had to drive a car there myself, I would have more than a nervous breakdown. Many different vehicles (cars, tuk tuks, mopeds, buses, etc.) drive around without any rules regarding priority, lane guidance or minimum distance, but somehow everything always works out without collision, a rule-less system, which however somehow works.

Colombo is located directly on the sea. However, on the section where our hotel was, there was no beach. The land was separated from the sea by a stone wall. In front of these stones were then built directly the train tracks.

This was a very funny picture to see the train pull into the station - and behind it directly the sea - so the best view for train travelers here in Colombo - and certainly less stressful than being on the road.

Restaurant recommendation for Colombo

For a start into the cuisine of Sri Lanka, we chose a nice place with a nice ambience and a buffet dinner. It is called Nuga Gama and is located within a hotel area, the Hotel Cin

You could sit out there under a huge tree and had an incredibly large selection of starters, main courses and desserts.

Even if the chefs say it is not particularly spicy - here in Sri Lanka other standards apply. We had to cry even at the "not particularly spicy" curries. 😊 The food itself was very tasty and varied. This restaurant is especially recommended at the beginning of a Sri Lanka trip to get a good overview of the domestic cuisine.
