Although Gili Trawangan is the largest of the Gili islands, if you go completely around the island, the running distance is rather manageable. A whole lap around the island is about 7 kilometres. What I particularly liked about this run is that you can enjoy a 100% sea view - there is no extra fenced-off section of beach here and it is something special to have this great view of the sea all the time.

The road on the main road around the island is about 60% asphalt, 30% dirt and 10% pure sand. You get a good overview of the island, especially from the west side, where there are few hotels.
My tips: Start your run early in the morning, as the intense sun and lack of shade make running very strenuous from 8am onwards. Also take enough water with you - there are countless providers on the island who offer a refill for very little money - helpful to avoid plastic waste 😊 And if you haven't already booked accommodation for all the planned nights, a run around the island is the perfect opportunity to get to know many different beautiful hotels!
A highlight of the run is when you climb a few steps to get to the island's viewpoint. The entrance to the viewpoint is at the Sunset Bar in the south of the island. Close to this bar, there are steep stairs leading uphill - if you then keep to the left and follow the path, you can't miss the viewpoint.

From up there, you have a great view of a very wide stretch of beach on the island and you can also see the side islands.
The run was a lot of fun for me because of the lack of motorised traffic and the beach view.
Have you ever completely circumnavigated an island? How big was the island? 😊
